I found Mel at a time in my life when I was feeling really low and unable to see past the obstacles I believed were in front of me. Work was stressful, my health had taken a downturn, and I wasn’t making any time for friends/family because I genuinely considered myself to be a burden on them. I had completely lost confidence in myself.
So, I contacted Mel firstly as a favour to a friend and secondly because I thought “what do I have to lose?” I was unhappy, and I couldn’t figure out how to get past it.
My first session with Mel was face to face where we sat together and went through the “wheel of life.” Which spokes on the wheel were causing an imbalance in my life, and how could I make small changes to help me stabilise the wheel? By speaking honestly together, I began to see where exactly I was feeling unhappy, and also what areas in my life were thriving. Together we made some small goals to work on for a week. After a week we would look at the targets and see what went well and what didn’t work out.
That’s what I love about working with Mel, she doesn’t ask you to make massive changes to your life straight away. She helps you to see the small little things you can tweak to make your life more fulfilling.
The rest of my sessions were through Skype video calls, as I live too far away to get together with Mel in person. Mel was really accommodating for dates and times suitable for us both.
Through coaching with Mel, I have learned invaluable coping skills to help get me through tough times. Simple little mantras (“not my shit!”) that allow me to get on with what is important to me. Every evening I take out my notebook and practice gratitude. It was something I had come across before when scrolling though Pinterest or Instagram but I scoffed at what I thought was hippy dippy nonsense! Now I can truly say that practicing gratitude has allowed me to change my mind-set and focus on the positives in life, even if its being grateful for a great cup of tea!
I honestly believe that working with Mel has helped me improve my quality of life. I had the courage to finally move out of home, my relationship with my family and friends has improved and, even though work is still difficult, I now have the tools to better cope with the stresses it throws at me.
Thank you Mel, 2017 has been all the better since I plucked up the courage to make that first phone call to you!
