September Book Club

Anyone who knows me well knows how much I love books and reading. Ever since I was young I have loved books so much so that my mam always knew when I was asleep because she would hear the book falling off the bed. I loved getting lost for hours in fairy tales or a magical world of unknown, allowing my imagination to run wild and become part of the whole adventure. I loved learning about new things too and would look through the pictures of encyclopedias and wonder at all there was in this world.

Reading is not not just an escape. It is access to a better way of life – Karin Slaughter.

I still love to get lost in books as an adult and I also love to learn more about life through reading.  I have read so many books that have brought so much meaning to experiences and situations in my life and others that have helped me understand myself and gain insight deep within my being. Other books were like reading about truths that I had long forgotten and as I turned each page, little by little,  I remembered the biggest truths of all. I feel that each book comes into my life at the perfect time and space for me to hear and learn from it. I have had books on the shelf for months or years but I know that I will read them when the time is right, when I am ready to wholly absorb them.

plato reading

Whether you enjoy listening or reading, real books or reading online, my wish is that you just read. Even if it is only a page or two a day, it can make a profound change on the way you see life. I love the feel and smell of books and remember turning up my nose at the Kindle when it first came out but after a while, and a bursting bookshelf I bought one and I love it as dearly as I do the real books. It is great to have a mini library with you when travelling or being able to download a book straight away instead of trying to find it in bookshops.  I love to listen to audio books too and love that I can listen to my favourite authors in the car or when I am out for a walk. I also love to underline or draw  love heart beside something that really makes sense to me or that I find important.

Rise Sister Rise – Rebecca Campbell

Each Month I am going to share some of my favourite books with you, why I love them and some insights about the book.

Wishes Fulfilled – Dr Wayne Dyer

Wayne Dyer has written over 30 books and is known as the Father of Motivation. He is one of my favourite authors and I could read or listen to him all day.  In this book you will delve deep into your desires, realise what they are and how to bring them into your reality.  He draws from the scientific and the spiritual to explain and show you how you can tap into your unconscious mind to transform your thoughts and live the life you want. He writes about the power of the words (particularly the power of the statement, I am..) we speak to ourselves and how they effect our reality.

” Allow yourself to follow your dreams and encourage your imagination by having a mind that is open to everything an attached to nothing.”

The Untethered Soul – Michael A. Singer

This book was gifted to my by a gorgeous friend who shares this mad journey on life with me, helping, teaching and learning with me all the lessons that come our way. This book explores the limitations and boundaries we place on ourselves and invites us to soar beyond them in an attempt to find inner peace and freedom. Reading this book, for me, was as if the author was speaking directly at me, that is how powerful and insightful this book is. It asks questions that encourage you to dig deep into the depths of your soul to understand it and set it free.

“The spiritual journey is one of constant transformation. In order to grow, you must give up the struggle to remain the same, and learn to embrace change at all times. One of the most important areas requiring change is how we solve our personal problems. We normally attempt to solve our inner disturbances by protecting ourselves. Real transformation begins when you embrace your problems as agents of growth.

Rise Sister Rise – Rebecca Campbell

I only found Rebecca this year at a Hay House event in London in March. From the moment she walked out on the stage and started speaking I knew she was speaking directly to me, my soul language. Everything she said that day resonated with me so much I bought both her books and devoured each one. Rise Sister Rise is a call for women to step into their true light, ability and greatness. It encourages and helps enable women to awaken, to stop playing small or to be held back by barriers placed upon us by society. She shares tools, reflective questions, mantras and affirmations, rituals and exercises that will help you sync back in with your natural intuition and have the courage to live the life you know you are worthy and capable of.

“We must rise as women and not follow as girls”

The Power of Now – Eckhart Tolle

About one year ago I had the opportunity and the honour of sitting in an audience with Eckhart Tolle in Dublin. Eckhart is one of the most well known spiritual teachers who lives life in the present, always. He has so much wisdom, presence and humour that you can’t help but hang on his every word. In his book The Power of Now he encourages you to let go of the stories that have created our life this far, leave the EGO at the door and step back into the present moment and to practice this as often as you can. If we are thinking of past or future we are missing out on the now, this present moment and so many wonderful experiences. I love the question and answer format of this book and that you can open it on any page and start reading.

“The truth is that the only power there is is contained within this moment: It is the power of your presence. Once you know that, you will also realise that you are responsible for your inner space now – nobody else is – and that the past cannot prevail against the power of the Now.”

The Magic – Rhonda Byrne

Many of you know how much I value gratitude and how I believe it can be so powerful. When we are stuck in a state of wanting or looking pack with regret we cannot appreciate all of the abundance and beauty around us now in this very moment. We worry about bills and scenarios that may happen and foster a mindset and vibration of worry, fear and anxiety. This can either keep us in a life of fear and misery or a life of self fulfilling prophecies – neither of which I chose to live my life by anymore, so I practice gratitude everyday!! The Magic by Rhonda Byrne is a great place to start on your gratitude journey or to add something extra to your gratitude practice already. Following the introduction you will find an exercise for each day for 28 days, each of which will help transform your mindset and life. My personal favourite is Day 1, Magical Outcomes, I use this all the time.

Hope you enjoyed this blog post, if so I would really appreciate if you could share it with someone else who may like it.

Happy reading,

Mel x
